Born:
Riverside, CA 1964
Education: The Academy of Art College, San Francisco | Business Certificate
in Graphic Design; 1991
Artistic Influences: Old billboards, neon signage, railroad cars, shipyards,
weathered surfaces, typography.
Old signage,
weathered and painted over with graffiti — Faded colors against brick and
cement walls — Rusted fences and doors... The urban landscape and
deterioration of my neighborhood in Mid-City Los Angeles is a direct
influence to my recent work.
My style combines complementary colors with texture and typography. I use
water-based media on canvas and wood. The painting process is normally
achieved by staining, scratching, ripping and sanding the surface. The
ability to expose underlying layers is what I find most challenging and
rewarding.
I attended The Academy of Art College in San Francisco where I studied
Graphic Design and Advertising Design. During college I began working in
design studios and print shops and I currently work at Insync Marketing
Solutions in Los Angeles. We specialize in color retouching, electronic
prepress and print for all the major motion picture studios in Hollywood,
California. |
